We all desire to have soft, pouty, pink lips. There’s nothing more beautiful than a charming smile and your lips are the most important part of your smile. A beautiful pouty lips catches everyone’s attention. Your lips are very sensitive and delicate. It’s more sensitive than your face skin, so our lips need some extra care and attention.

Reasons behind the dark lips

Low blood circulation, stress, drugs, smoking, etc are the factors that make your lips dark. Some more factors that make lips dark are:

  1. Dehydration.
  2. Lip biting/sucking.
  3. Too much consumption of caffeine.
  4. Excessive exposure to the sun.
  5. Anemia.
  6. Melasma or Hyperpigmentation.
  7. Allergic reaction to toothpaste and lipsticks etc.
  8. Unhealthy lifestyle.
  9. Vitamins deficiency.
  10. Consistent use of cosmetics.

Now let us look at the best natural remedies to get pink lips at home

8 Home Remedies that can make your lips lighten, soften and get pink naturally

1. Lemon sugar scrub 

Lemon contains vitamin C that helps to lighten the dark skin of your lips. Sugar is an excellent exfoliator. Sugar granules are used to exfoliate all the dead skin cells and make it smooth and shiny.

How to apply:

Take one teaspoon fresh lemon juice and add a few drops of water. Sprinkle some sugar on it and mix it well. Rub this mixture on your lips for a couple of minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water and apply a layer of petroleum jelly on your lips.

Repeat this remedy twice a week for the best result before going to bed.

Note: If you have sensitive skin and you feel any irritation then add a little bit more water to reduce the concentration.

2. Natural Beetroot Lipbalm

Beetroot is a natural colouring agent. It has an amazing staining power that gives you natural reddish-pink color lips. Beetroot contains the colouring pigments betanin and vulgaxanthin. These pigments are a great antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that helps to give a natural color to your lips, protect it from sun damage, and make your lips luscious.

Ingredients:-

  1. Beetroot juice
  2. Vitamin E (capsules or bottle)
  3. Petroleum jelly (vaseline)
  4. Coconut oil 

How to make:

First, wash the beetroot with water and peel it. Cut the beetroot in small pieces and grind it well. Extract fresh juice from it and store the juice in a clean container. 

Note:  

Do not add water into beetroot juice, it can fade the color of your lip balm

Now add vitamin E, Coconut Oil, petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to the beetroot juice, and stir it well.

Store this lip balm in the refrigerator. Use within 2-3 weeks.

How to apply:

Massage your lips with this lip balm for 30 seconds before bedtime.

Before applying this lip balm don’t forget to exfoliate all the dead skins of your lips by scrubbing with a soft-bristle toothbrush.

You can also use almond oil or olive oil instead of coconut oil. 

3. Honey

Honey moisturizes and heals your chapped lips. Honey also prevents your cracked lips from infections.

How to apply:

Apply a fine layer of honey on your chapped lips and massage your lips (massaging will increase the flow of blood to your lips). You can leave honey on your lips overnight or as long as you want, then wash it off with cool water.

Repeat 2-3 times a day for instant relief from cracked lips. 

4. Milk cream and Pomegranate seeds

Pomegranate seeds contain punicalagin that works excellent in lightening your dark lips. Pomegranate seeds reduce the production of melanin and also prevent your skin from harmful UV rays. Pomegranate seeds are rich in vitamin C that also has an excellent feature to lighten the dark skin of lips.

Milk cream moisturizes your chapped lips and also works as an exfoliator that helps in removing the dead skin cells. 

How to apply

Take a few pomegranate seeds and grind it. Add some milk cream to it and mix it well.

Apply this mixture on your lips and scrub gently, then leave this mixture for 15 minutes onto your lips. Wash it off with cool water. After washing your lips don’t forget to apply petroleum jelly on your lips. Apply this every alternate day for better results.

5. Turmeric and milk

Turmeric is a spice. Turmeric contains curcumin. Curcumin has an excellent anti-inflammatory effect and also is a powerful antioxidant. It also performs as a melanin inhibitor and works well in lightening your dark lips.

Lactic acid present in the milk is a good exfoliator, which exfoliates all the dead and dry skin and moisturizes your cracked lips.

How to apply:

Make a paste of milk and turmeric powder and rub gently onto your lips. Leave it for 5 minutes and then wash your lips with cold water. Apply your favorite lip balm if you are doing it in the daytime. If you are doing it before bedtime then apply petroleum jelly.

6. Rose petals and milk

Rose petals and milk paste are excellent remedies for rosy pink lips. It has been used since past times to get naturally pink lips. 

How to apply:

Crush few generous rose petals and add some raw milk. Stir the raw milk and crush the rose petals. Make a fine thick paste. 

Note:

You can add almond oil into the paste or you can add a few drops of glycerine.

Apply this paste on your lips. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off with cool water.

Apply this paste every day for the best results.

7. Aloe vera gel mask

Aloe vera is a magical medicinal plant. Aloe vera contains Gibberellins and Auxin that are great Anti-inflammatory. The Aloe Vera gel accelerates the healing of your chapped lips. It also reduces the risk of infections.

How to apply:

Take a fresh Aloe Vera leaf and scoop out the gel. Store it in a clean container. Now add oil (as per your choice) and stir it well. Massage your lips with this mixture and rest store in the refrigerator. Apply this before going to bed and leave it overnight. The next morning wash it off with cool water.

8. Drink plenty of water

Water removes the toxins from your skin and helps in the growth of new skin cells. Drinking lots of water keep your skin soft and hydrated and moisturize it. Dry skin and lips indicate that your skin is not properly hydrated. It is advised to drink more than 8 ounces of water or 2 liters a day to keep your skin and lips healthy.

Points you should take care of

  • Always apply lip balm having SPF 15 during day time.
  • Use Vaseline or any petroleum jelly at night.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • If you smoke then quit it.
  • Always hydrate your lips with lip balm and petroleum jelly.
  • Stop biting/licking your lips.
  • Don’t forget to remove your lipsticks before going to bed.
  • Frequently scrub your lips to exfoliate all the dry and dead skin cells.
